The Golden Orange, which has enlightened the two successive dark pages in its history this year, has awarded “the Bests” of 1979 and 1980, festivals of which could not be held due to the censorship and coup d’état. “The Belated Golden Orange Awards” have been eternalised through a documentary created by Deniz Yayın.
The documentary handling with the belated awards of the Golden Orange for 30 years was screened at the AKM (Atatürk Cultural Centre) Perge Hall. The screening presented by Fisun Köstek attracted a great deal attention.
The novels, posters and films, which were exposed to the censorship in 1979 and 1980, were reminded through the documentary. The film critic Atilla Dorsay, the actor Tarık Akan, the mayor of Antalya during that period, Selahattin Tonguç, Assist. Prof. Dr. Merih Taşkaya and the producer Korhan Yurtsever participated in the interview organised after the screening as well as the director of the documentary Deniz Yayın.
Atilla Dorsay, who described the concept of cinema in 1979 and 1980, stated: “Each impact results in a reaction. Despite the censorship which gradually became tougher, very good and political films were produced. It is a remarkable event that the films which were subjected to censorship come together in this way. This event is of great symbolical importance. Korhan Yurtsever, one of the producers of the period, who could not cross the censorship barrier, said: “Censorship made all film-makers suffer as well as me. It is a great honour for me that the film “Kara Kafa” (Dark Head) is discussed and screened after so many years. This award enables me to turn back to cinema at this age.”
Tarık Akan’s moments that were full of emotion
During the interview, one of the audience said that he/she bought a book titled “The Best 1001 Films” in London and it included the film “Yol” (Road) starring Tarık Akan. Akan had moments which were full of emotion upon this statement.
