Dramatist, scriptwriter, and film director Rustam Ibragimbekov who is one of the famous names of Azerbaijani and Soviet Cinema comes to Antalya as the honoured guest of the 48th International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival.
Rustam Ibragimbekov will be honoured with a special award at the Life Time Honorary Awards Ceremony of the 48th Festival which is organized by the cooperation of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and the Antalya Culture and Arts Foundation.
With the director Nikita Mihalkov, Ibragimbekov wrote the script of the film “Burnt by the Sun” which was directed by Nikita Mihalkov and deemed worthy of the Oscar for The Best Foreign Language Film in 1994.
The films the scripts of which were written by Ibragimbekov won numerous prestigious awards especially the Oscar award for “The Best Foreign Language Film”, the Golden Lion in Venice Film Festival , The Big Award of the Festival- Cannes Film Festival, and Felix Awards.
The Ibragimbekov Mark in Cinema History
The film “The White Sun of the Desert” the script of which was written by Ibragimbekov whose play entitled “Like a Lion” was performed by Istanbul City Theatres in the previous years, and obtained the title “the most watched film ever” in the Soviet Union in which it came to the white screen in 1970. The film has had an immense effect in Russia and former Soviet countries and the lines of it which were written by Ibragimbekov have turned into humours and idioms which are still used in Russian.
The awarded films Urga (Close to Eden) (1991), Burnt by the Sun (1994), The Barber of Siberia (1998) which were created thanks to the long lasting-cooperation of Ibragimbekov with Nikita Mikhalkov are among the leading films of cinematic history.
Wearing Three Hats: Cinema- Literature-Theatre
Rustam Ibragimbekov, born in Baku in 1939, completed his scriptwriting and directing education in the All-Russian State University of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow, after having received engineering an education in the Azerbaijan Institute of Oil and Chemicals.
Ibragimbekov still holds the presidency of the International Cinema Institutions Association (CFU) of which national cinema institutions of the former Soviet Union countries are still members. Ibragimbekov who continues to carry out his cinema work actively also has stories and plays amongst his works.
